After much anticipation, Phase 1 of the Silver Line is now open! Phase 1 connects Tysons Corner and Reston to the DC Metrorail system and is the first new rail line since 1991. By offering an attractive alternative to the stressful commute along I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road, the Silver Line is expected to transform Tysons into a more accessible community and fast-forward economic development.
“This is a great day for Northern Virginia and for the entire national capital region,” Sen. Mark Warner said at the grand opening ceremony held July 25th at Wiehle-Reston East Station. “Not only will the Silver Line reduce congestion and help Virginia commuters get to work, it will provide a convenient way for people in the region to reach Tysons Corner and the growing list of shopping and other opportunities available there."
Metro Offices client Michael Veve lives in Alexandria and works at our Tysons Corner center. He was impressed by the convenience of the new Silver Line the first time he used it. “I walked from my condo in Old Town to the King Street Metro station, and took the Blue Line to Rosslyn, where I switched to the Silver Line,” said Michael. “It was a treat to sit down and read on the commute and not have to contend with traffic on the Beltway.” Michael says it took him only about five minutes to get from the Greensboro station to his office. He is happy to now have another good commuting option.
We look forward to hearing more from our Reston and Tysons Corner office space clients about how this addition is affecting their commutes! Rail service to Dulles International Airport and into Loudoun County is coming in the second phase of the Silver Line project, which is expected to be completed in 2018.
